Luis Ramos was born in Lisbon, Portugal, where he studied photography at AR.CO, School of Visual Arts and cinema at Escola Superior de Cinema.
For many years he made his career in the leading Portuguese newspapers Expresso and Público as a photojournalist and photo editor. He travelled in assignment all over the world and has been distinguished with different awards.
From 2006 he became an independent photographer.
His last individual exhibitions took place in Lisbon at Galeria de Sta. Maria Maior with “Lisbon revisited” as part of the Imago Lisboa Photo Festival, at Centro Cultural de Belém with “Remember”, in the former Presídio da Trafaria with “Muses, animals and other extraordinary beings”, in Brussels at Casa da Cultura do Brasil with “Time Lapse ”(after having been at the Fundação D. Luís I, in Cascais and at Tavira Municipal Museum), in Faro at the Teatro das Figuras with“ Layers ”and at the Municipal Art Gallery of Almada with“ It takes two to dance the tango ”. He was represented in several group exhibitions in Portugal, France, Belgium, Italy and Denmark. The most recent took place in Germany, at the Berliner Liste, with the project “Insomnia”.
He also gave his contribution as an author for many books.
He is represented in several art collections such as Centro Cultural de Belém, EDP Foundation, D. Luís I Foundation, Tavira City Council, Faro City Council and Almada Contemporary Art Center.
